Just one day before a series of performances at the NAMM Show, several artists—all having various performance obligations throughout the convention—reached out looking for eye-catching flyers to promote their appearances. They had only one request: incorporate their chosen photos. Beyond that, they gave no specific design direction. Despite the tight turnaround, I was happy to collaborate, with most decisions ultimately resting on my shoulders.
Short Lead Time: The artists contacted me less than 24 hours before their appearances, leaving minimal room for ideation and revisions.
Limited Creative Input: Other than supplying photos, the performers had no specific branding or style guidelines, placing full design responsibility on me.
Multiple Events & Artists: Although some performers shared the same stage, not everyone played at every show, meaning each flyer needed unique messaging while maintaining a coherent aesthetic.
Gathering Essential Information: With limited reference images and event details (including times, dates, and venues), I swiftly compiled the crucial information necessary for each flyer.
Rapid Brainstorming and Layouts:
Flexible Collaboration:
Fast Turnaround:
Effective Promotion: The flyers were completed in time for all performances, giving each artist a polished marketing tool despite the tight schedule.
High-Profile Exposure: Some of the designs were reposted by Instagram accounts with over a million followers, providing valuable visibility for both the artists and my design work.
Positive Feedback: Even with minimal initial input, the performers appreciated how the final flyers captured their brand identity and generated excitement among fans.
By promptly adapting to last-minute requests and utilizing the artists’ photographs as the primary visual element, I was able to generate distinctive and attention-grabbing flyers that prominently showcased each performer’s set. A willingness to make prompt decisions, maintain an open mind to potential alterations, and prioritize clear communication ensured the project’s success. Furthermore, the widespread reach of social media facilitated substantial attention for both the artists and my portfolio.
